Afrobeats singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, also known as Ruger, has raised concerns about untalented artists gaining popularity in the Nigerian music industry through extensive promotion.
He expressed frustration at the fact that artists lacking in talent can still achieve fame if they have the financial resources to promote themselves.
In a post on his social media handle, Ruger stated, “The music industry has been disheartening for me because, regardless of an artist’s lack of skill, they can still rise to prominence with the help of money for promotion.”
He also expressed regret over the use of autotune by certain artists, particularly during live performances.
“Now, let’s discuss the use of autotune on the microphone during your performances. In the future, please instruct your sound engineer to disable it when you are speaking, as it can distort your voice. Ruger, for example, does not require such assistance. Thank you,” he wrote.
