In a viral episode of the VeryDarkMan (VDM) Podcast on June 28, 2025, Nigerian music promoter Sam Larry addressed long-standing accusations that he bullied the late singer Mohbad.
During the interview, Sam Larry strongly refuted the bullying claims, stating: “Me I no bully am”. He clarified that his involvement with Mohbad was strictly financial: Mohbad owed him ₦2 million related to a joint birthday performance. “Na my money wey him own me I dey ask,” he explained
Sam Larry recalled that Mohbad proposed combining their birthday shows—his on January 4 and Sam Larry’s on January 7—and agreed to an appearance fee. While payment was reportedly made, Mohbad allegedly never showed up for the event ().
He defended himself from online criticism, asserting that those condemning him didn’t support Mohbad while he was alive. He said he had even “carried [Mohbad’s] career on [his] head,” but noted that made no one care until after Mohbad’s death ().
Mohbad’s death in September 2023 remains under investigation. Sam Larry, along with others including Naira Marley, was briefly detained in late September 2023 ().
