Interior designer Amaka Obasi alleges Afrobeats singer Rema used his influence to involve police in a payment dispute. She says police repeatedly detained her after she requested full payment for completed work.
She worked on several projects for Rema. Those include renovations to his mother’s home in Benin, improvements at his personal residence, a music studio, and a water system upgrade. She says he failed to pay for those services.
Amaka says she was lured to a meeting at Force CID, Alagbon, Lagos. She claims she was asked to pay over one million naira as bail. She says she has been detained multiple times. She claims police pressured her to turn off her phone so the public would think she remained in custody. Those claims spread on social media. The Police Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at Alagbon Lagos responded. Spokesperson ASP Maiyegun Aminat said the issue involves a contract valued at ₦386 million. Amaka allegedly got ₦287 million upfront. They say work remains incomplete. They say some furniture she claimed she delivered was missing.
