At this year’s BET Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night, Tems was the sole Nigerian to appear on the list of winners. Her song “Me & U” beat out competition from Gospel artists such as Kirk Franklin, Shirley Caesar, and Maverick City to win the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award.
Unfortunately, Tems’ fellow Nigerian artists Ayra Starr and Asake did not win in their categories. Ayra Starr lost the Best International Act award to South Africa’s Tyla, as well as the Best New Artist award and the BET Her award to Victoria Monét.
